On behalf of BWINE – Les Vignobles Mottet, ClimatePartner has calculated the carbon emissions for
the product Chateau la France, supported by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Product Life Cycle
Accounting and Reporting Standard (GHG Protocol). By calculating the product carbon footprint, it was possible to identify the potential for mitigating and reducing emissions and on this basis offset any unavoidable emissions. As a result, the product has become carbon neutral and designated as such.
Here are some actions that have been taken to produce this neutral carbon wine :
- Lightweight bottles
- Eco-friendly and recyclable corks
- Labels created from paper recycled from grape waste and using only bio-degradable ink
- Winery’s suppliers are all chosen within a 50-kilometre radius from the production site to reduce overall carbon footprint
- Creating an 84-ha forest on an abandoned agricultural land, planted with different local tree species and added other species to get a more resilient forest to answer today’s climate change issues
Located between Bordeaux and Saint-Emilion, in the Entre-deux-Mers region, Château La France stretches over 90 hectares (222 acres) of land with 78 ha planted with vines – 71ha of red grapes and 7ha of whites. Château La France is certified “High Environmental Value”, the national farm certification which promotes particulary eco-friendly practices in agriculture.
Château La France was purchased by the Mottet Family in 2009 and since then the family keep on improving the quality of their wines, regularly awarded prestigious medals.
